TOPIC: An Old Story in a New Chapter: Jesus, Israel’s Scripture and Matthew’s Gospel
TUTOR: Ruth Norris
WHEN: 7th April 2018, 9AM – 6:30PM
WHERE: The Kings Centre, Osney Mead, Oxford OX2 0ES
COST: £40 including lunch & dinner
You won’t read Matthew’s gospel for long before you notice that he’s fond of using Old Testament texts and does so in some very strategic places and creative ways. But what exactly is he doing and why? Why does he sometimes alter wording and does that matter, and is he simply using proof texts or doing something more?
In our study day, An Old Story in a New Chapter: Jesus, Israel’s Scripture and Matthew’s Gospel, we will explore some instances of Matthew’s use of the Old Testament, considering these questions and asking, most importantly of all, how their answers address both Israel and us, and what they say about God, Jesus, and the invitation that marks our lives.
